2023 January Spotlight Athlete- Aaron Westbrook

This month our spotlight athlete is Aaron Westbrook! He’s a junior at Zachary High and one of our clients who’s been with us since going through the CrossFit Kids program. It’s always fun for the community here to experience the growth of ones that have been with us since their CF Kids days. Aaron has shown tremendous growth physically and mentally. What was just an after school extracurricular activity has now become something he’s very passionate about. Now he pushes the adults in his class to get better and go harder than they thought they could. We’d be happy to have 10 more Aaron’s around here. Keep reading below to hear more about Aaron’s time with us and if you’re reading Aaron’s story and want to get your kids involved in our CrossFit Kids program just click this link and we’d love to get them started on their path to being passionate about fitness and healthy living. Our kids program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00.

What brought you to CrossFit Zachary?

What brought me to CrossFit Zachary were my parents. Both of them went to CrossFit and would bring me with them so I have been around the environment for a while. When I turned old enough, I joined the CrossFit kids program and later the adult program and now where I am now.

What was your first impression?

My first impression of CrossFit was that it was a fun after school activity I could go to. I didn't understand the working towards a goal aspect of CrossFit at the time but now I enjoy being able to push myself and compete with other people at CrossFit.

What was your first bright spot?

My first bright spot was going to my first adult class. It was a lot tougher than the kids classes and it solidified CrossFit and working out as a part of my life.

What are you working on right now?

Right now I am working on being faster in the workout and making every move count to be more efficient. Also I am working on the more complex movements like the muscle-up so I can use it in workouts because adding more to what I can do makes it more fun.

What’s your favorite CrossFit memory?

My favorite CrossFit memory is doing Murph last year. Everyone who was doing it was giving everything they had and had even more people in the CrossFit Zachary family cheering them on. I enjoy the atmosphere that the workout brought because there is nothing else like turning your mind off and going. Another good memory, looking back on it, was my brother sticking his finger in one of the big roller fans while our parents worked out. He was alright after crying for a little bit.
