Spotlight Athlete- Brittany Murray

This month we are highlighting one of the hardest workers at CrossFit Zachary. Congratulations to Brittany Murray on all her accomplishments while being with us at CFZ. While Brittany came to us a bit uncertain about CrossFit, she quickly realized it was the thing for her and it’s been working out well ever since. Specifically recently she’s had a few medical procedures that she’s had to tackle with the same mindset and determination she’s learned to attack each workout with. CrossFit doesn’t just produce physical results but in some cases, even more so, it produces mental results. It’s that mental toughness that enables our clients, like Brittany, to succeed in life. Here’s a quick rundown of Brittany’s recent challenges in her words.

  • 1st surgery 11/3, got back to gym 11/9 to 12/1.

  • Worked out @ 5:30 AM on 12/1 then had a second surgery the same morning @ 7:45.

  • Third surgery 12/8

  • Fourth 12/20

  • Returned to gym 1/10 on “light movement restriction” & was fully released & back to 5 days per week starting 1/15. My surgeons did say that in part, because of my active gym routine that my chances of complications were slim. Also shout out to our wonderful coaches that took their personal time to check on me during my weeks of recovery outside the gym.

Again we congratulate Brittany on her amazing recovery and getting back to work. She’s one of many testimonies of how fitness prepares you for whatever life brings your way. Take a few extra minutes and read below how Brittany began at CrossFit Zachary and we hope to see you walking through our doors soon!

What brought you to CrossFit Zachary in the first place?
My friend Lauren asked me to join her and even though I was apprehensive I joined her for a 5:30 am class & that was 2 years ago!

What was your first impression?
I wasn’t sure I would be capable of achieving the level of fitness or strength of some of the other team members.

How has that changed?
I finally realized that everyone will eventually fail a lift, the team, coaches will still cheer for you either way. Put your mind to it & go for it.

What was your first “bright spot, (PR)?
My first rope climb felt great but finally hitting 200 lb for my deadlift was so exciting.

What are you working on now?
Recovering from surgery in the strength area & improving cardio.

What’s your favorite CrossFit Zachary memory?
The first Open I attended, seeing everyone showcase the effort they’d put in since the year before followed by our team building dinner. Was a great night.
