2022 October Spotlight Athlete- Kim Byrd

Let us introduce our October spotlight athlete who’s a mother of 3 and grandmother of 9, Kim Byrd. When Kim came to us she was looking for something to do to keep busy and of course stay fit. That was 2011. Fast forward to 2022 and take a look at the pictures below. You’ll quickly understand Kim’s “why” for sticking with CrossFit and choosing a healthy lifestyle. She’s one of our clients who proves that what we do day inside the gym affects what we do outside of the gym and every area of your life. Not everyone who does CrossFit wants to compete or lift the heaviest weight. We have all kinds of “whys” floating around the gym and for Kim it’s all about the grandchildren. It’s impressive to see how motivated she is when she comes into the gym and how she waste no time with getting her work done so she can stay active and healthy for her family. If you’re thinking about being able to keep up with the kids and grandkids or cutting your own grass or just taking in the groceries without being winded when you’re done you should come out to CrossFit Zachary and join the many others who have those same goals in mind. Click this link and check out our class options and meet with one of our coaches. We’d love to get you started on your journey!

What brought you to CrossFit Zachary in the first place?

I was going through the empty nest syndrome and I was looking for something that I liked to do. I saw everyone working out in front of Rouse’s (That was 2 previous gyms back). So I walked in to see if I was too old to start working out. That was in 2011 and I’ve been here off and on ever since.

What was your first impression? How has that changed?

I was very nervous when I first started because I had never worked out before and I didn’t know anyone there. That all changed very quickly. Everyone was very helpful and supportive. I love the fact that we have a instructor each day and do something different each day.

What was your first “bright spot, (PR)?

I did actually learn to do a pull up un-assisted and I got to ring the bell. That was quite an accomplishment for me.

What are you working on now?

I am working on getting stronger everyday so that I can keep up with my 9 grandkids. I want to be able to run, jump, and play with them until THEY are too old to play!

What’s your favorite CrossFit Zachary memory?

I actually went to a competition when I first joined CrossFit which I had never done before. I was so proud of myself and the team for competing that day. I don’t remember what the outcome of the day was but it was a great memory for me.
