2021 February Spotlight Athlete- Katie Underwood
Katie Underwood is our well deserving spotlight athlete. When an athlete has that certain drive in their eyes our coaching staff all notices and it drives us as well. That’s what Katie has and it’s been a joy to see her journey with us at CrossFit Zachary. Even with a boot on her foot at times, she’s never let that hinder or stop her. She has goals in mind and works hard to accomplish them. Let her words below inspire you to make some adjustments that you may need to make and come join us at CFZ so we can help you be the vest version of you possible.
Q: WHY DID YOU JOIN US?
A: It took some nudging from friends who worked out at CFZ. I had been there, done that and wasn't sure I wanted to do it again. But the people suggesting it assured me that it would be different and better - and to at least give it a try...what was there to lose? I took the risk and they were oh so very right!!!
Q: WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT SINCE JOINING US?
A: Constant and consistent progress. One day at a time, I can literally see myself getting stronger and in better shape; not just physically but more mentally tough too! My muscles and strength are growing, I’m down a size in clothes, and my whole outlook has shifted more towards health and fitness. I pay more attention to what my body needs to be healthy – both physical and mentally. The highlight of my day is when I can escape work and head to CFZ for 6pm class.
Q: WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?
A: My big, long term goals are to be A LOT leaner, stronger, and healthier. I tell myself I am one year in on my five-year to a super healthy me plan. I do my best to make sure I set attainable fitness goals and stay focused on them. Right now I'm working on drinking more water and getting in a minimum of four CrossFit workouts a week. When those become habit, I will set new goals to support my big goals. Oh and my WW has asked me to compete at Festivus with her this year - so I am ready to start prepping for that too.
Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT OUR GYM?
A: My favorite memories are countless! Some include new PRs, but even moments when I pick up something at the gym or at home that used to seem heavy and it now seems light. Good times, joking around and laughing with everyone, but also getting in the zone and working so very hard at each WOD. The absolute best moment was when I realized that my assorted injuries (Achilles and knee stuff) were not going to keep me from working out and that I was at a place with coaches who really pay attention to me and are willing to help me work around and overcome my injuries.
Q: WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO CONTINUE TRAINING HERE?
A: I'm not one to work out consistently at home or even at a 'regular' gym by myself. I need some structure, some coaching, and a support system to keep me motivated and focused. CFZ provides exactly what I need in just the right ways. It is more than just a gym to me; CFZ - the coaches and the people I work out with are my support system and my family. I can't imagine my life without CFZ!
