March Spotlight Athlete- Tarra Joseph
We’re so excited to shine the spotlight on Tarra this month. She’s been with us for a while now and has been the example of consistency. Even when things get hectic in life she will always carve out time to take care of herself and get a few workouts in each week. There’s never too many days that go by that we don’t see that smile come in ready to work. One of the things that we love about Tarra is that even after a long workout she still makes time to catchup with her CrossFit friends and family. She’s all about community. Here are her thoughts about her time here at CFZ.
“I came to my first CrossFit Zachary class as a guest with Tiffany Thomas. My first impression of the class was one of PURE curiosity, because honestly when I walked into the building (the old location) and looked around I was curious about all the different equipment (bars, row machines, stone balls, etc), the placement of the equipment and then looking at the whiteboard, the organization of the workouts. Literally-In my mind I was like “WTH”! What have I let Tiffany talk me into this time?! 🤦🏾♀️ Then I saw Coach Fabian and recognized him from a spin class he used to teach at Spectrum and oddly enough he remembered me and welcomed me to the class. After that VERY FIRST CLASS I joined CFZ. I throughly enjoy the variety in the workouts and most importantly the attention from the coaches during the workouts, assisting me with my form and “calling me out” when I needed to add more weight! I also truly admired how they helped me after my knee injury. There are not many places you can go to workout and the coaches ADJUST the workouts when you have an injury.
My bright spot is DEADLIFTS—I LOVE LOVE DEADLIFTS! MY PR (personal record) 1 rep max is 215# (shout out to my workout buddy-Staci and Coach Cheri because they both were there that day and kept telling me I could do it—and Cheri watched my form and kept me correct)
I’m now working on A LOT! I want to be able to climb that rope, perform anything associated with a pull-up with no assistance, and get better on anything connected with front squats.
My favorite CrossFit memory might be a bit strange to some but it’s “laugh out loud” funny as heck to me....here is what happened; as I mentioned earlier I signed up after that first class and I was so pumped and excited for the next workout that I was running into a FRIDAY AFTERNOON class exactly at the time the class was ending—NOT KNOWING UNTIL I LOOKED AT THE SCHEDULE ON THE WALL—THAT WAS THE LAST CLASS FOR THE DAY! I was sooo embarrassed I just grabbed my bag and left out the door hoping no one noticed. BUT SOMEONE DID NOTICE...that someone was Coach Fabian who called out to me as I was leaving. “HEY TARRA-EVERYTHING OK....DID YOU NEED SOMETHING??” Ummm no I’m good as I scurried out the door to my car and laughing at myself so hard I cried! And still to this day I HAVE NO REGRETS and will continue coming to as many classes as I can, even though I might not be able to make it to all the Friday workout classes.”
We are more than happy to have Tarra with us and are thankful she trusted us after that first session to guide her along her journey to being the fittest version of her possible. She’s our March Spotlight Athlete and she deserves it!
