Spotlight Athlete- Ahlecia Haney-Pitre
Last month we placed the spotlight on one of our clients who recently began working out with us and has shown excellent results. This month we thought we’d share another similar story. Ahlecia is going into her 5th month with us and she’s our spotlight athlete! I think if you asked our coaches what’s one word that describes her they would all say, without a doubt, determination. She’s quickly demonstrated the discipline and determination it takes to get the results she wants. It’s caused her to get results in CrossFit as well. She walks into the gym and knows it’s time to get to work. She puts in the work without complaining and we can all tell her life and fitness is better because of it. We’re all so happy to play a part in this weight loss journey she’s on and we have no doubt that she will reach her goal. You have to come workout with us to see how not only Ahlecia but all of our athletes work so hard to meet each and every goal they set for themselves. Wether it’s just coming in to get the heart rate up or a certain weight they’d like to get to, they’re all awesome in our eyes!
What brought you to CrossFit Zachary in the first place?
I have been working out consistently at another gym in Baton Rouge, La and with my office hours it became too cumbersome for me to meet there. I saw my friend Car La Facebook post on her working out at CrossFit so I came in and met Gabby. I watched one of the classes and said it was very different from where I was working out at but I was willing to give it a try. Some times change is good and in my case it worked out in my favor.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
At first I was like "Girl, what did you get yourself into? This crap is hard and you will never get it. These people are way more advanced than you, you will never fit in here.” Then I had to realize that we were all going at our own pace, our own weight. Fabian told me one day, "This is your workout and nobody else’s workout." I think that made me see : Nobody was paying attention to what the next person was doing. It put me at ease with coaches being very receptive and very attentive. If they see me struggling or not getting a concept they come and help me figure it out.
Now I look forward to coming even though I don't talk much. I love how there is encouragement amongst us in the gym.
What was your first “bright spot, (PR)?
My first PR was with Cheri. She kinda looks at you without saying anything to make you know "Girl that’s too light you can put more weight on that" We were doing deadlifts and she said "You are stronger than that" So I went and got more weights . I was able to hit 175 lbs.
What are you working on now?
Since joining CrossFit I have lost 31lb so far. Right now I am working on perfecting the Power Cleans and also working on proper body mechanics with most workouts. I am aiming for another 20lb weight loss. Prior to coming to CrossFit I had lost 173 lbs., without any surgical intervention, just eating clean and working out. I am trying to get back to my pre-baby weight while toning.
What’s your favorite CrossFit Zachary memory?”
My favorite memory was actually yesterday I did a half murph with no breaks and was able to complete it! Me complete a half murph. I would have never thought I could do that! But I pushed myself to the max and I was able to pull it off. I am starting to trust the coaches and listen to my body. I seem to think that some things I just can not do then the coaches come and encourage me to at least try. Most of the time after I try it I actually can perform those task. (Mostly Fabian, He just doesn't take no for an answer! He at least wants you to try a skill one time) *MURPH is an annual Memorial Day Workout completed by all CrossFit gyms across the nation. It’s 1 Mile run, 100 Pull-Ups, 200 Push-ups, 300 Air Squats, 1 Mile Run. Half Murph is half of all of that which is done through out the year from time to time.
