2022 June Spotlight Athlete- Lee Chatelain
This month’s spotlight athlete is one of our CFZ veterans! Lee has been with us for 6 years now and even after all that time the coaches and staff have noticed a new found determination in Lee to be the best version of herself possible. She’s been encouraging to watch this year as she attacks the workouts and keeps fitness at the forefront of her life in and out of the gym. It’s so easy to let life get the best of you and distract you from coming to the gym but Lee is a great example of what it looks like to put first things first. You’ll find her bright and early at the 5:30am class working hard and cheering everyone else at the same time! We would love for anyone reading this to come in and talk to any of our clients about the benefits of being a part of the community at CrossFit Zachary. They will all tell you they are better for having done so. Congratulations Lee on being our spotlight athlete. Please take a little time to read what Lee has to say about her time with her.
What brought you to CrossFit Zachary in the first place?
Back in 2016 my best good friend Gina Vince gave me a solid nudge to try out this thing called "Couch to CrossFit" because she'd been working out at CFZ for about 6 months and she thought I'd like it...she was 100% correct! I was hooked. I completed that Couch to CrossFit and the Foundations at the old gym and then my first REAL workout was at our current gym.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
My first impressions of CrossFit Zachary were many; I was awe struck, intimidated, scared, somewhat insecure...but I also noticed that these people really, really liked each other. It was a sense of community I'd never seen in a gym before and I wanted to be a part of that! Now, 6 years later, and a tiny bit of a CFZ veteran and I feel pretty confident saying that I am part of that! CFZ absolutely is my 3rd place!
What was your first “bright spot, (PR)?
I cannot remember my first PR - but I do remember the feeling I had when I learned how to do a proper power clean. It was 65# I think and that was so heavy back then. It was a bit of an ah-ha moment realizing that I am strong; I am powerful; I can do this stuff! To this day, the hang power clean (and the deadlift because, HEAVY) is my favorite lift.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I'm working on strict pull ups...and I will have one, or two, in June - STAY TUNED.
What’s your favorite CrossFit Zachary memory?
I have so many memories of CrossFit Zachary that bring me joy...but the actual friends that I've made that purely want to see me be my best self and encourage that every single day, that community, that is my favorite part. Without a doubt. There's no better way for me to start my day than with 5:30am sweat session with my friends.
