2022 May Spotlight Athlete- Alexis Gilbert
Our spotlight athlete of the month is the perfect example of if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again! Alexis Gilbert has a great attitude every time she walks in the gym and has proven she has what it takes to take charge of her life and be the healthy person she’s always wanted to be. She’s one of the quiet ones in the gym but that quietness translate into determination to get the work done. We’re so proud of her progress and the way she makes time for her health. Please take a little time to read her story below. Afterwards reach out to us and let us help you take charge of your life. You will not regret it! Congratulations Alexis on being our May spotlight athlete!
I first joined CrossFit Zachary in 2018/2019. Unfortunately, I let the busyness of life get in the way of my health. Fast-forward to July 2021…I decided to take back control of my life. I wanted to be happier, healthier, stronger, and look/feel like myself again.
I started consistently attending the 5 p.m. class because it worked with my schedule, and I already had friends attending that class. However, I have made too many friends to count since then. I’ve even formed close friendships with people who attend a different class than I do. That’s what’s special about CrossFit Zachary. It isn’t just a gym. We don’t just have coaches. These are real people and real relationships. Friends who truly push, encourage, and lift you up. Coaches who are incredibly knowledgeable and humble. I’m not afraid to ask for correction or help, because everyone at CFZ truly wants you to be the best version of yourself. My first big moment when I was truly proud of myself is when Coach Karim partnered with me for a workout. She was watching me closely, and I was waiting for what I thought would be a correction on my form. Instead, she pushed me to grab more weight for my bar. She believed in me before I did. Moving forward, I want to be the best me possible by staying transparent, consistent, and an encouragement to others. I have already reached so many personal milestones, and I’m just getting started. If you’ve ever even considered joining, take this as your sign!
